Indy Book Project is a small but mighty literary nonprofit serving Central Indiana.  Since its inception in 2018, it has gifted over 98,000 books to children in Indianapolis and the surrounding areas.  With a mission to ensure that all children have access to books in their home, Indy Book Project collects gently used or new books from the community, sorts them, and then distributes them to community centers, schools, and other locations that serve youth.

Why is this so important?  Because research has shown that increasing access to books and giving children the choice to choose what they want to read improves academic performance and attitudes toward reading and learning.

This year, Indy Book Project aims to expand their reach even more by partnering with Celebrate Science Indiana, Indiana’s Premier Science Festival.  This partnership between two entities so dedicated to fostering a love of learning in our young Hoosiers is destined to be “one for the books”!

So, how can you get involved?

• All children attending Celebrate Science Indiana on Saturday October 1 can stop by the Indy Book Project booth to claim one free Science-themed book (while supplies last). Because Indy Books Project’s inventory changes all the time, this booth practically guarantees a treasure hunt experience.
• All attendees are welcome to bring and donate gently used children’s books to the Indy Book Project booth. What better way to honor Celebrate Science Indiana’s 2022 theme of Protecting Our Earth than giving a second life to a book that could have ended up in a landfill, but will instead be cherished by a new, eager young reader.
• Educators, community members and leaders, business owners, and non-profits are encouraged to talk with the Indy Book Project volunteers to learn more about how they can get free books (or donate used books in good condition) to keep the organization’s mission going and growing for many years to come.
