The 2023 Indianapolis Regional You Be The Chemist Challenge was held at Heritage Research Group’s The Center on the morning of March 4, 2023. Six teams of four grade 5-8 students participated in this year’s challenge: 4 teacher led teams from Eman School, 1 parent team from the Young Hoosier Chem Club and 1 parent led team from Creekside Middle School.

The challenge consisted of 4 rounds of 10 chemistry questions which were based on study materials that the students used to prepare for the challenge and the cumulative scores for each team were used to determine the top 3 teams in the challenge.

Congratulations to all students who participated in this year’s challenge and thanks to their team coordinators for their efforts to help the student teams prepare for the challenge! They all received a Certificate of Excellence plus some giveaways from the Chemical Educational Foundation for participating in the challenge.

All six teams will also be producing a video for the 2nd component of this year’s challenge. The sum of the scores in the challenge and the video competition from ALL participating teams in Indiana will be used to identify the top team in Indiana. The top 5 teams from across the United States will be invited to participate in the National You Be The Chemist Challenge in Houston in June.
