Tinkerfest at the Indiana State Museum: Celebrating Curiosity, Creativity, and 250 Years of American Innovation

On September 19, the Indiana State Museum will once again transform into a bustling playground of creativity for Tinkerfest, a full‑day celebration of hands‑on exploration, inventive thinking, and STEM discovery. Running from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tinkerfest invites visitors of all ages to dive into the joy of making, building, experimenting, and—of course—tinkering.

Visitors can grab a map and explore the galleries to uncover these remarkable Indiana‑born ideas, inventions, and changemakers woven throughout 250 years of American history.

Tinkerfest features more than 30 interactive, hands‑on activities hosted by community exhibitors from across Indiana. Each station invites children and families to explore STEM concepts through play—whether they’re building structures, experimenting with circuits, coding simple programs, or creating artistic inventions from everyday materials.
